The Wheatsheaf Inn- In the sleepy village of Exning, this inn run by a local racehorse trainer is situated just 5 minutes from Newmarket town centre and racecourse. All food, including a delicious breakfast, is home-cooked from fresh ingredients by the chef. There is a large conservatory for dining, as well as a separate restaurant. On race nights the restaurant is open till 22:00. Recently refurbished en suite rooms (awaiting rating) offer high standards of comfort and style. Bahamas Hotel- Situated in the heart of Torquay in Devon, this family-run guest house offers a friendly, relaxed and informal atmosphere for couples, families and the business traveller. The Red Lion Hinxton- In a tiny village south of Cambridge, this appealing 16th-century freehouse has an AA Rosette restaurant, an atmospheric bar, and new-build en suite rooms with free internet. The Red Lion is a Grade II listed building with a walled garden overlooked by a dovecote and village church. You will find beamed ceilings, log fires, cask ales and seasonal menus within the bar and restaurant. The Red Lion Hixton is recommended by Alastair Sawday, and is convenient for Cambridge University, Duxford Imperial War Musuem and the M11.

The Queens Head Hotel- This 17th-century coaching inn is located on Ashby's main high street. Family run, it offers home-cooked English food and a lively weekend nightclub. The Queen's Head Hotel is close to all the main local motorways, and a short journey from Birmingham and East Midlands Airport. An intimate front bar is open until either 22:30 (Sunday), 23:00 (Monday to Wednesday), 00:00 (Thursday) or 01:00 (Friday and Saturday). On Fridays and Saturdays, the hotel features Ciros Night Club (open till 02:00) and The Loft Bar (open till 01:00). It's popular and so a bit noisy, but residents are on the club's guest list. The hotel also features a large outside smoking area and a TV lounge.
