The Pilgrims Rest - The Pilgrims Rest is a sympathetically renovated, Grade II listed, late 16th-early 17th century building, now housing a bar and lounge area, a dining room and 6 en suite bedrooms. The Pilgrims rest has a rich and fascinating history. In the early 19th century, the building was home to a farrier, whose forge stood next door. As recently as the early 1900s, part of the building was a butcher's. Today, the property has been carefully restored and sensitively refurbished by your hosts, Gerard and Denise McNicholas. There are now 6 en suite rooms with all the comforts the modern traveller requires, including tea/coffee making facilities and flat-screen TVs with Freeview digital channels. Each room also has a work desk and ironing facilities. The Pilgrims Rest has a bar and lounge area and a dining room where breakfast is served or where an evening meal can be enjoyed. Free wireless internet is available in public areas. In the centre of Littlebourne, on the A257 main road, only 4 miles (6.5 km) south of Canterbury, the Pilgrims Rest makes a good base, whatever your reason for visiting the area. The Portland Hotel - Opposite the Leas Cliff Hall, beside the sea and Folkestone town centre, The Portland Hotel has a popular bar and restaurant (dinner inclusive deals). Close to Eurotunnel and the Dover Ferry Terminal. The Skuba Bar, with its sun terrace and garden overlooking the sea, is perfect for socialising or a quiet drink, whilst savouring the sea views. The Skuba Grill offers its renowned menu in the bar throughout the day and in the restaurant during the evenings. Breakfast is continental-style with a wide variety of cereals, cheeses, yoghurts, croissants and fruit. Being a smaller hotel, there is no dedicated reception. Guests are asked to check-in at the bar, where staff will guide you to your room, taking note of any special requirements. Please note that children and pets are not usually accepted. The cottage at The Ship Inn is south facing and located on the seafront, with 2 of the rooms offering outstanding sea views - on a clear day, the views of France are particularly special. Only a 5-minute drive from the Channel Tunnel and 16 minutes from the port of Dover, The Ship Inn is known for the quality and range of real ales, as well as its home cooked food. The Crown Inn - The newly refurbished Crown Inn has 7 brand new en-suite bedrooms, a bar and restaurant with a'la carte menu. The Crown overlooks beautiful Chislehurst Common. If you enjoy walking, then Chislehurst is on one of the Green Chain routes from Mottingham Lane to Beckenham Park (4 1/2 miles). The Crown is very close to the well known Chislehurst Caves which extend for nearly 20 miles and date back over 4,000 years. The caves became more widely known after their use during the Second World War as an air raid shelter, not only for the locals but for over 10,000 Londoners who travelled to the caves each night by special train. It was so well organised that people could pay 1d per night for a bunk and there was also a cinema, church and hospital for them to use during their time underground. The caves are thought to be entirely man made and were created during three periods of time by our ancestors - well worth a visit. The Crown Inn has 7 guest rooms, all of which are non-smoking.
